1. current announcements
Spring 2021: Vetain has successfully raised 16,000€ via Kickstarter. Thanks to the pre-orders during the crowdfunding campaign, the start-up was finally able to order the first batch of raw materials and materials and go to market. The sales launch was in mid-October 2021.
Spring 2022: Together with its partner EdenProjects, the start-up has already planted over 14,393 mangroves in Madagascar.

3. the VETAIN story
The problem (summer 2019)
Philipp and Luca are friends. They have been doing a lot of sport together for several years. They had both grown particularly fond of weight training. Due to the growing demands of training, a healthy diet became increasingly important. After the documentary "Gamechanger" was released in September 2019, the two of them took a close look at the topic of nutrition and realized that the daily consumption of whey protein in combination with huge amounts of milk simply could not be healthy. In addition, the CO2 emissions from cows are extremely harmful to the environment.
So they both switched to vegan protein powder at the beginning of 2019. Over a period of two months, the friends tried dozens of vegan protein powders and were always disappointed. Each time, the products either tasted extremely sandy, artificial or were full of substances such as thickeners, preservatives, artificial flavors and dubious sweeteners. Often all points applied... The raw materials in the powders were cheap goods from China, while the product was sold at exorbitant prices in relation to this. The two had imagined a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative.
The idea (fall 2019)
Philipp in particular was extremely unhappy with the situation. So one evening after training, he called Luca. "Why don't we just make our own protein powder to suit our needs?"
What initially sounded like a crazy idea quickly became a reality. A protein powder tailored to our own needs, with good taste, good quality, sustainable and, above all, no frills. The idea behind Vetain was born!
The very next day, Philipp and Luca met up full of zest for action to search the internet for suitable wholesalers away from Chinese markets such as Alibaba. This turned out to be not so easy. The raw materials definitely had to be of organic quality and preferably come from German retailers. In addition, the two knew from their passion for sport that the value (the amino acid profile) and the protein content played an important role. The components had to be perfectly coordinated.
By 2019, they had already tested over 15 different raw materials.
Planning (early 2020)
All of a sudden, all gyms and sports grounds were closed. The coronavirus pandemic held the world in its iron grip. But the two of them didn't let that stop them. On the contrary! During the time off school, they threw themselves into product development with more motivation than ever before and tried over 35 different proteins and superfoods again. The friends also contacted a South Tyrolean fruit processing company to create an incomparable taste. In April, they proudly held their first prototype in their hands. But the development was far from over... Although they both graduated from high school in the same year, they continued to work at full speed on their vision, reading books and finding out more about nutrition and its effects on the human body.
Foundation (summer 2020)
The Abitur was successfully passed. The entire country was in lockdown due to coronavirus. But instead of lying around like the other high school graduates, Luca and Philipp dedicated themselves 110% to their start-up. In August 2020, the two finally founded Vetain UG. They had €4,000 in equity capital available as start-up capital at the time.
They invested this money in further training, additional raw materials, inventory and a logo and packaging design. As the founders wanted to convey their values to the world through their own products, they wanted to use only completely plastic and aluminum-free packaging for the sake of the environment - whatever the cost! After contacting more than 20 different packaging manufacturers, they ended up with just one that met their criteria. Even though the price of the packaging was more than 8 times higher than a conventional round sleeve with an aluminum coating or a plastic can, Philipp and Luca risked a competitive disadvantage and remained true to their values.
After finding sustainable packaging, the two met with a nutritionist, a food technician and a fitness trainer to use their newly acquired knowledge to develop a completely new recipe for the basic protein powder: A 5-component protein made from pea, rice, hemp, linseed and pumpkin protein, which is perfectly balanced in terms of value and taste. They also researched the best superfoods to use in their individually formulated powder. Their vision was to replace many individual supplements with one powder thanks to the vitamins and minerals in the superfoods!
The website was ready by the end of November. Now all that was missing was the money for the packaging, raw materials, advertising and the configurator to make our dream a reality. As the founders did not want to take out a loan, they planned to launch a crowdfunding campaign.
Over the course of the Kickstarter campaign, the founders and the community managed to collect 16,000€ in pre-orders within three weeks. This meant that nothing stood in the way of the project and the first batch of raw materials could be ordered.
At the end of September, Philipp and Luca transformed Vetain UG into Vetain GmbH and officially launched sales on October 15, 2021.
