Vitamins and Minerals by Vetain

Hi, we are Vetain, a vegan dietary supplement manufacturer! We have made it our mission to develop the best dietary supplements. What matters to us and what good dietary supplements mean to us, we explain to you now:

  • Clean vitamins and minerals: We avoid unnecessary fillers and additives – our natural dietary supplements contain only the ingredients that truly belong in them.
  • Sustainable supplements: Not only do we care about our customers, but also about the environment. That’s why we pay close attention to sustainability in production, packaging, and shipping.
  • Vegan vitamins and minerals: All our products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Plant-based dietary supplements are becoming increasingly popular – even among non-vegans.
  • Natural vitamins and minerals: Our vitamin supplements are natural.
  • Tested dietary supplements: Our supplements are regularly tested by independent laboratories.
  • High-dosage vitamins and minerals: Our product developers formulate our supplements so that they are sensibly dosed.
  • Made in Germany: We are a German supplement manufacturer and stand for safety & quality!

If this also sounds like great values to you, we’d be happy if you take a look around our website and maybe include one or two nutrients in your routine.
If you’re unsure which products you need or which dietary supplements you should buy, we have put together a guide to dietary supplements for you.

Different forms of vitamins and minerals

Vitamins and minerals come in many different forms. The most well-known are vitamin capsules, vitamin tablets, vitamin powders, and liquid vitamins and minerals (in juice or drop form).
Which form is best? There’s no clear answer, as all vitamin supplements have their own advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on your preferences and needs.
Let’s take a look at the forms of vitamins and minerals together.

When developing our vitamins and minerals, we decide individually which dosage form is best suited for each supplement. That’s why you’ll find a colorful mix of different tablets, capsules, and more in our shop.

Just try out what works best for you and your nutrient routine. Small tip: thanks to the plant-based capsule shell, our capsules are very easy for most people to swallow – without sticking.

Fat-soluble vitamins

Fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E, and K. What makes these four vitamins special is that, unlike many other vitamins, they are not water-soluble but fat-soluble. This means they dissolve when they come into contact with fat, allowing the body to absorb them. That’s why it’s very important to always take fat-soluble vitamins with a meal containing fat. In most cases, a normal breakfast, lunch, or dinner is sufficient. Even a snack with healthy fats, such as an apple with peanut butter or fresh nuts, counts as a fat-containing meal.
Especially practical: this type of vitamin can be stored in the body, allowing it to draw on reserves when needed. However, this also increases the potential risk of overdosing: while an excessive dose of water-soluble vitamins (over a short period!) is often simply excreted, fat-soluble vitamins can accumulate in the body, which may lead to overdosing in the long term.

Which fat-soluble vitamins are there?

  • Vitamin A: Vitamin A is found in animal-based foods such as meat, eggs, and dairy products. In plant-based foods like carrots, spinach, or broccoli, it occurs as provitamin A, which is then converted into the active form in the body.
  • Vitamin E: Vitamin E is mainly found in nuts, seeds, and vegetable oils.
  • Vitamin D: The sunshine vitamin is produced by the body itself when exposed to sunlight. Only a few foods, such as fatty fish, contain vitamin D. Many people supplement this vitamin, especially in winter (see: Vitamin D in winter).
  • Vitamin K: Vitamin K is often taken together with vitamin D as a dietary supplement and is otherwise found in green vegetables, meat, or dairy products.

Water-soluble vitamins

The next group of our vitamins and minerals are water-soluble vitamins. These include all B vitamins as well as vitamin C. They dissolve easily in water and therefore do not necessarily need to be taken with a fat-containing meal, unlike fat-soluble vitamins. Instead, a glass of water or another liquid is sufficient to take them. Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body. Any excess is (up to a certain degree) simply excreted. This means we need to make sure to consume them regularly (i.e. daily!) through our diet, as the body has virtually no reserves to draw from.
Let’s take a closer look at these vitamins:

  • Vitamin B: Contrary to what many people think, vitamin B is not a single vitamin but a collective term for an entire group of B vitamins. This group includes B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B7 (biotin), B9 (folic acid), and B12 (cobalamin). All of these vitamins have their own functions in the body. They are often supplemented as a vitamin B complex. Of particular interest to many: vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products, which is why vegans often take vitamin B12 as a supplement.
  • Vitamin C: Vitamin C is perhaps the best-known vitamin and has already been covered in our blog: Vitamin C daily requirement. It is mainly found in fruits and vegetables such as bell peppers, berries, oranges, and more. In addition, it is often supplemented, especially in winter but also throughout the year.

Minerals

Before we really dive into the topic, we first need to clarify an important question: what are minerals anyway? Minerals are nutrients that the body cannot produce itself and must therefore obtain through diet. They are essential for life and involved in many functions in the body. Compared to vitamins, minerals are inorganic elements, meaning they originate from soil or water and are absorbed by plants (and animals). Vitamins and minerals are both essential nutrients and are obtained through daily nutrition.

Let’s take a look at some minerals:

  • Calcium: Calcium is mainly found in dairy products but is also present in plant-based foods such as leafy greens, broccoli, almonds, or calcium-rich mineral water. Some people (especially women over 50) also like to use calcium supplements.
  • Magnesium: Magnesium is found in nuts, seeds, whole grain products, legumes, and green vegetables. Physically active people often take magnesium supplements.
  • Sulfur: Sulfur can be consumed through protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs, legumes, or cabbage. Recently, MSM has also been gaining more attention as a sulfur compound sold as a supplement in capsule form.
  • Iron: Iron is a particularly relevant topic for people who menstruate, and many choose to supplement it. In addition, iron is also found in various animal and plant-based foods.
  • Zinc: Zinc can be obtained through a balanced diet via meat, cheese, eggs, oats, nuts, and legumes. zinc supplements can also contribute to zinc intake.
  • Iodine: In Germany, the general recommendation is to use iodized salt.

If you’re still looking for high-quality dietary supplements, you’re in exactly the right place. At Vetain, you’ll find a wide selection of vitamins and minerals to support your nutrient intake.
Before you start shopping in our dietary supplement store, we’d like to briefly draw your attention to our other supplements that don’t directly fall under vitamins and minerals.

  • L-Glutamine: L-glutamine is an amino acid that is especially popular among physically active people.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Our vegan omega-3 alternative from algae provides omega-3 fatty acids traditionally found in fish.
  • Vegan collagen: Vegan collagen alternatives are interesting for people who want to supplement collagen but don’t want to rely on animal products.
  • Creatine: Many physically active people take creatine supplements as a fixed part of their gym routine.
  • Turmeric: Turmeric is a root that contains the plant compound curcumin. Many people know turmeric from popular ginger-turmeric shots.
  • OPC capsules: OPC comes from grape seeds and is now also offered as an OPC supplement.
  • Black seed oil: Black seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Nigella sativa and has traditionally been used in various cultures – really fascinating!

So, those were all of our supplements. We’ll introduce our protein powders & protein bars another time – you’ve already had plenty of input. Now it’s finally time to order your vitamins!
Speaking of input, one last thing: in our blog, you’ll find lots of additional information about individual nutrients. If you’d like, feel free to hop over after your order and browse through our blog. You’re sure to find topics that interest you – such as how you can cover all vitamins and minerals with a balanced diet or which vitamins and minerals should not be taken together.

Any questions left?

Yes, especially fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) can accumulate in the body and cause toxic effects. Overdosing on water-soluble vitamins is less risky, but excessive amounts of vitamin C or B6 can still lead to side effects. No worries – we've carefully balanced the dosage in our supplements.

Especially in vegan or vegetarian diets, vitamin B12, iron, and zinc are often lacking. Magnesium and calcium can also be insufficient, depending on dietary choices.

Of course! They not only support overall health but also play a crucial role in the body's detoxification process. The liver and kidneys are essential for neutralizing and breaking down toxins, and certain micronutrients help these organs function optimally. Supplementing with vitamins and minerals can actually aid in detoxification.
