A protein shake in between is one of the easiest ways to slightly increase your protein intake. But especially on hot summer days, you might prefer an ice-cold lemonade that is quick to drink and just as quick to digest. The solution: a clear protein shake – of course vegan, in true Vetain style. You can simply shake our vegan clear protein powder with some water, or you can do it like the pros: take out the blender and blend one serving of Clear Protein with a little water and frozen fruit. This gives you a homemade slushy within seconds, containing an impressive 22 g of highest-quality protein. If you’re in too much of a hurry for that or belong to the people who leave their motivation at the gym, you can also simply mix the Clear Protein with sparkling water instead of still water. Our Vegan Clear Protein uses hydrolyzed pea protein as its protein source. Why? Because pea protein has an almost complete amino acid profile. One common issue with vegan protein products – besides taste – is that they often have a weak amino acid profile. That means not all or too few of the total 9 essential and 11 non-essential amino acids are present in the protein powder. The body needs all of them. With whey, this is less of an issue, since animal products are generally very close to human nutritional needs. That’s why the so-called “Chemical Score” is used when assessing the quality of plant-based proteins. It describes the bioavailability or value of vegan protein, meaning how well the human body can absorb and further process it. It is measured in direct comparison with animal products – a high Chemical Score therefore tells you that your body can absorb the vegan product almost as well as a non-vegan one. Anything above 100 is ideal – how great that our Vegan Clear Protein has a Chemical Score of 188!
Unfortunately, a high-quality ingredient list does not automatically mean that something is healthy. Especially with pea protein, contamination with lead, mercury and other less desirable substances is quite common.
