Now add the dry ingredients and the quark to the yeast water and knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
Note: It’s completely normal for the dough to still be slightly sticky!
Let the rolls rest covered again for 30-45 minutes and preheat the oven to 230 degrees Celsius top/bottom heat in the meantime.
Into the oven! Bake the rolls for about 10 minutes on the middle rack. Then reduce the temperature to 200 degrees, switch the oven to convection, and bake for another 8-12 minutes. When they turn brown on top, it's a good sign they're done.
Tip: Place an ovenproof bowl with hot water in the oven to create steam!
Let the rolls cool on a rack and enjoy them with a topping of your choice!
If you want a crispy crust, briefly cover the rolls with a damp cloth.
Recipe Note
Have you always wanted to make protein rolls yourself but haven't dared to try yet? Don't worry – this high protein roll recipe is really easy and also suitable for beginners. So feel free to give it a try!

Bake protein rolls yourself
Our quark rolls are based on carefully selected ingredients:
contain fiber from the seeds and kernels
contain proteins from the protein powder and quark
contain unsaturated fatty acids from the seeds and kernels
A little tip: You can also freeze the protein rolls. This keeps them fresh for a long time and you can simply thaw them when needed. Otherwise, you can pack them airtight – this way they keep for a few days at room temperature. If they get a bit dry, you can moisten them slightly with water and bake them briefly in the oven again – in just a few minutes they are as good as fresh and really crispy.
Variations
Normal protein rolls are too boring for you and you feel like trying something new? Hold on tight: With this simple protein roll recipe, you can easily make sweet rolls or protein pizza rolls yourself!
Sweet rolls: Replace the neutral protein powder with a chocolate protein powder or banana protein powder and add more sweetness. Bake your rolls as usual – just skip the additional toppings.
Pizza rolls: Leave out the seeds as a topping and instead add Italian herbs to the dough. Bake the protein rolls as usual. Cut them (once cooled) open and top them like a pizza with tomato sauce, mushrooms, onions, (vegan) cheese, and everything your heart desires. Then put them in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius with fan (on a relatively high rack) and bake briefly until the cheese has melted.
Our protein powder: Vetain's Vegan Protein Neutral
May I introduce? Vetain’s neutral protein powder – the star of the recipe at a glance:
High-quality multi-component protein
With organic ingredients
Neutral taste
Free from gluten and lactose, artificial additives & sucralose
High quality: made under strict standards in Germany and lab-tested
We might be a bit biased, but for us, the protein powder from Vetain is the ideal ingredient in the vegan protein rolls. It provides high-quality proteins and makes your rolls not only protein-rich but also delicious!
