Protein Iced Matcha Latte is everywhere right now - on Instagram, at the gym, and in trendy cafés. After the "normal" matcha hype, this trend takes things to another level - because it combines everything I love about a good drink: the delicious taste of matcha with a generous serving of protein, all served ice-cold!

Stir your matcha powder into cold water until smooth and slightly frothy. Important: If your powder indicates that it should only be used hot, please use hot water and let your matcha-water mixture cool briefly so the ice cubes don't simply melt away later!
Add a dash of vanilla extract and a sweetener of your choice, then stir briefly again.
Add the matcha protein powder and oat milk to a shaker and shake everything into a creamy shake.
Take a large glass and add the ice cubes. Pour your protein shake over the ice cubes and carefully add your matcha mixture as well. Your Protein Iced Latte with a double portion of matcha is ready!

If you stroll into the gym with this Protein Iced Matcha Latte, you’re guaranteed to be the coolest person there.
Delicious variations for your Protein Iced Matcha Latte
We all know it: Some swear by a completely plain matcha with a little vanilla, while others swear by a little strawberry puree in their drink or frozen mango pieces!
Here are my favorite variations for all matcha lovers and everyone who wants to become one:
Strawberry-matcha combination: Simply puree a handful of fresh or frozen strawberries and add them to the bottom of the glass before adding the concentrated matcha goodness. The drink’s name is also quite a tongue-twister: Strawberry Protein Iced Matcha Latte.
Tropical mango matcha version: For everyone who likes things exotic! Frozen mango pieces make your Protein Iced Matcha Latte wonderfully creamy and bring a hint of summer vacation to your glass.
Berry mix: Just blend whatever your fridge has to offer - blueberries, raspberries, blackberries. Even better: The red, pink, and green color combination makes it twice as fun.
Coconut version: Replace the oat drink with coconut milk and you’ll get an Iced Protein Matcha Latte with an extra-creamy texture and a hint of coconut.

The perfect protein powder for your Protein Iced Matcha Latte
If you’re looking for a protein powder that pairs perfectly with this recipe, I’d like to recommend our vegan Matcha Latte protein powder from Vetain. It’s basically the secret ingredient for all matcha fans who want to take their drink to the next level.
I’ll briefly introduce our Matcha Protein Powder to you - it’ll only take a few seconds, don’t worry:
✓ Organic matcha from Japan combined with 4 high-quality protein sources!
✓ Completely vegan
✓ Made with high-quality organic ingredients
✓ Delicious, natural flavor
✓ Free from lactose & artificial additives
✓ Complete amino acid profile
What’s especially important to me is this: At Vetain, we focus on transparent ingredients without artificial sweeteners, soy, or unnecessary additives. Our ingredient list feels shorter than the name of this fancy drink! ;) The powder dissolves well - no clumps in your drink, promised!
By the way, the powder also tastes incredibly good simply mixed with plant-based milk! So if the Protein Iced Matcha Latte recipe feels like too much effort sometimes, you can also quickly shake it up with a little plant-based milk.
Not in the mood for double matcha? Creative protein combinations
Surprise: At Vetain, we not only have matcha protein powder, but also many other incredibly delicious flavors!
So I like to vary the recipe a little depending on how I feel: Sometimes I want the ultimate matcha taste and use the matcha protein. On other days, I want to make the matcha flavor a little milder or try a completely new flavor. Then I reach for other types of protein powder:
Banana protein powder: Adds natural sweetness and makes the Iced Matcha Latte protein powder mix extra creamy. Perfect if you prefer a mild flavor and want to avoid additional sugar.
Strawberry protein: For everyone who likes things fruity and fresh. The strawberry flavor gives your drink a summery note. Tip: Combine it with a few frozen strawberries for even more fruitiness.
Vanilla protein as a mild classic: Vanilla is the all-rounder among protein flavors - it simply always works. The subtle vanilla note lets the Protein Iced Matcha Latte shine without overpowering it. Ideal for beginners who want to ease into the taste of green tea.
My best tips for the perfect Protein Iced Matcha Latte
This is how you can make the absolutely perfect drink too:
The matcha quality makes all the difference: Not all green tea powder is the same. High-quality matcha tastes less bitter and has an intense green color. Authentic matcha is made from ground leaves of high-quality green tea. The matcha in our protein powder is very high quality - and you can taste it.
Ice cubes vs. frozen fruit: Ice cubes cool the drink quickly, but can also dilute it if you prefer to sip it slowly. Frozen fruit such as banana, berries, or mango can be a practical alternative: They not only keep the Iced Matcha Latte Protein Shake refreshingly cool, but also add a delicious flavor!
Adjust the sweetness to taste: You decide how sweet it should be and which sweetener you use. Why not try cane sugar, a splash of maple syrup, or skip the sweetness altogether - for some, the natural flavor of good matcha and the slight sweetness of the protein powder are perfectly sufficient.
The right time: Perhaps the most important tip! Even the most delicious matcha is only half as enjoyable in hindsight if you can't sleep all night. Matcha contains caffeine … and if you drink your matcha too late, it can mean a sleepless night.
The right amount makes all the difference: Too much matcha can taste bitter, while too little gets lost. With 1-2 g of matcha and 15 g of protein powder in 200-300 ml of liquid, you'll get it just right. If it still tastes too strong or too weak, you can always add more matcha or another splash of oat milk!
Substitution table
How often do we want to recreate a recipe, only to find that certain ingredients are missing or that we don't like individual components? That's what this substitution table is for, so you can adapt the Protein Matcha Latte recipe to your liking! Simply replace individual ingredients as you wish!
Matcha protein powder → Other protein powder from Vetain
Oat milk → soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, …
Vanilla extract → vanilla sugar, vanilla flavoring
Ice cubes → frozen fruit
Our recipe is vegan, but of course you can also use animal-based ingredients.
By the way: Whether you call this drink Iced Latte Matcha or Iced Latte Protein or whatever, it really doesn't matter - I get confused from time to time, too.
