    Fat-soluble vitamins

    The fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E, and K. What's special about these four vitamins is that, unlike many other vitamins, they are not water-soluble but, as the name suggests, fat-soluble. This means they dissolve upon contact with fat, allowing the body to absorb them. Therefore, it's very important to always consume fat-soluble vitamins with a meal containing fat. A normal breakfast, lunch, or dinner is usually sufficient. A healthy snack can also be a good source of these vitamins.     What fat-soluble vitamins are there?

    • Vitamin A: Vitamin A is found in animal products such as meat, eggs, and dairy products. In plant-based foods like carrots, spinach, and broccoli, it occurs in the form of provitamin A, which is then converted into its active form in the body.
    • Vitamin E: Vitamin E is found particularly in nuts, seeds and vegetable oils.

    Water-soluble vitamins

    The next group of our vitamins and minerals are the water-soluble vitamins. These include all the B vitamins and vitamin C. They dissolve easily in water and therefore, unlike fat-soluble vitamins, don't necessarily need to be taken with a fatty meal. Instead, a glass of water or other liquid is sufficient. Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body. Any excess is simply excreted (up to a certain point). This means that we must pay particular attention to consuming them regularly (i.e., daily!) through our diet. Our bodies don't actually have any reserves of these vitamins to draw upon.
