    Zubereitung

    1

Peel and finely grate the ginger and garlic. Optionally, you can grate some zest from a washed organic lime.

    2

Then add all the ingredients to a bowl and stir until a creamy sauce forms. Alternatively, you can simply add all the ingredients to a blender.

    3

Season the sauce with salt, lime juice, and optional heat of your choice, and enjoy it with vegetables, noodles, or summer rolls.

    Recipe Note

I simply can't get enough of this sauce - ever since I developed the recipe, my summer roll consumption has increased dramatically! :D
By the way: Our summer roll recipe is also really delicious!

How can peanut sauce be used?

I love how versatile such a simple recipe can be. One day it's a delicious sauce for summer rolls, the next a pasta sauce - and yes, you really can eat it every day because it's SO good. At least I never get enough of it, and my mother regularly asks for our quick peanut sauce made with peanut butter too. ;)
Here are my favorite ways to use it:

    • Classic: Peanut sauce for summer rolls is simply unbeatable. It provides the perfect contrast to the fresh, crunchy ingredients, and everyone knows: peanut sauce + summer rolls = dream team! But it also tastes fantastic with vegetable sticks or crispy tofu.

    • Bowls and rice: A peanut sauce bowl with colorful vegetables and rice is one of my absolute favorite dishes for meal prep. You can prepare everything in advance and have a delicious lunch in the fridge for several days.

    • Noodles: Asian noodles with a creamy peanut butter sauce are ready in under 15 minutes and are truly filling.

    • Vegetables: Roasted broccoli, carrots, or zucchini reach a whole new level of flavor this way. Vegetable stir-fries and salads can also be easily enhanced with a nutty sauce.

    • Wraps and more: Rolled into wraps or used as a base for sandwiches - so easy and delicious.

As you can see, the possibilities for recipes are endless. So you can really adapt the sauce's basic recipe to your meal plan. And whether it ends up being a colorful bowl or simply a serving of rice with peanut sauce and some vegetables - one thing is always certain: it tastes delicious.

    My best tips

Our simple peanut sauce with coconut milk turns out best when you know a few secret tricks. I'll tell you how to make the sauce perfect every time:

    1. Really good ingredients: It's best to use high-quality, fresh ingredients - you can really taste the difference in the end!

    2. The secret to preventing lumps: Stir, stir, stir! That's really the whole secret ;)

    3. Peanut-soy sauce balance: The perfect umami flavor comes from the right balance between peanut butter and soy sauce. Too much soy and all you taste is salt; too little and the sauce lacks punch. I start with 1 tbsp soy sauce and then adjust to taste. If you like it saltier, add a little more seasoning. A splash of lime juice and some ginger round out the flavor.

    4. Adjust the consistency: Too thick? Simply stir in a little water. Too thin? Add more peanut butter. With an immersion blender or mixer, you can make the sauce especially creamy.

By the way: If you like some crunch in your sauce, you can either add some chopped peanuts or choose crunchy peanut butter with pieces.

Which peanut butter is best for peanut sauce?

How good your sauce really turns out in the end depends above all on the peanut butter you use. What a surprise!
We at Vetain searched for the perfect peanut butter for a long time. The problem: Many products contain added fats, sugar, or salt - but we simply wanted a pure, natural peanut butter. Completely free from additives.
And we wouldn't be Vetain if we hadn't developed our own peanut butter as a result! ;)

What makes our peanut butter so good?

    • Made from 100% roasted organic peanuts

    • Vegan

    • Free from additives, added sugar & palm oil

    • Naturally gluten-free and lactose-free

Give it a try and prepare to be delighted!

    Variations of vegan peanut sauce

The great thing about this recipe is that you can adapt the sauce to your taste. Here are my favorite variations:

    • Super easy for beginners: Peanut butter, soy sauce, a little coconut milk, garlic, ginger, and lime juice - and the base is almost ready. Perfect if you want to make peanut sauce yourself for the first time.

    • Spicy version: For extra heat, add sambal oelek, fresh chili, or curry paste. A piece of ginger and a clove of garlic provide extra flavor. This version goes perfectly with bowls and noodles.

    • Extra-creamy peanut-coconut sauce: With a little more coconut milk, the sauce becomes especially velvety.

    Peanut sauce vs. satay sauce

    What is what?

    What is peanut sauce?
It is a creamy, savory-sweet sauce that originated in Asia. It is based on roasted peanuts or peanut paste and is often refined with soy sauce, lime juice, garlic, and a sweet component such as maple syrup or coconut blossom sugar. In Asian cuisine, it is used in many ways - with summer rolls, as a sauce for rice dishes and noodles, or as a dressing for bowls and salads. The combination with coconut milk, which gives the sauce a velvety, slightly sweet note, is particularly popular. It adds a pleasant creaminess and depth to many dishes.

    What is satay sauce?
Satay sauce, also called saté sauce, is a special type of peanut sauce traditionally served with satay skewers - grilled meat, fish, or tofu on a stick. Satay sauce is usually somewhat thicker and more intense in flavor than the classic version. Saté sauce often contains additional spices such as lemongrass, galangal, or tamarind, which give it a more complex flavor. It is very popular in Asia and is often enhanced with a spicier note such as chili. Saté sauce can also be vegan and brings a bold, nutty flavor to the plate.

    Substitution table

How often do we want to make a recipe again, but are missing certain ingredients or don't like some of the components? For this reason, we've put together a substitution table for you so that you can adapt this peanut sauce recipe to your liking! Simply replace individual ingredients as you wish!

    • Peanut paste → Peanut butter

    • Coconut milk → Plant-based milk

    • Soy sauce → Salt, tamari

    • Maple syrup → Sweetener of your choice

    • Lime juice → Lemon juice

    • Fresh ginger → Ground ginger

Our peanut sauce is vegan, but of course you can also use animal-based ingredients.

      Frequently asked questions

No problem! You can easily replace coconut milk with oat milk, almond milk, or even warm water. The sauce will then be a little less creamy, but will still taste delicious. For extra creaminess, add an additional spoonful of peanut butter or coconut oil.

A “normal” sauce often only consists of a few ingredients. A traditional satay sauce is more complex, contains additional spices such as galangal, lemongrass, tamarind and is often refined with curry paste. Both are delicious – it depends on time and preference.

The trick is to stir vigorously and for a long time. A high-performance blender or hand blender also helps to achieve a silky-smooth texture.

Your homemade sauce will keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for about 5-7 days. You can also freeze them - just defrost before using and stir well if some oil has separated. If it smells funny or shows mold, get rid of it.
