Recipe Note
Toppings for our Protein Waffles
Waffles don’t always have to be sweet! Especially for brunch or post-workout, savory protein waffles are a hit. Here are our favorite combos:
Sweet:
- classic with maple syrup
- with a scoop of ice cream and fresh fruit
- with berry compote or jam
- with chocolate spread
- with nut butter and banana
You can also easily turn your protein waffles into fruity waffles: add grated or chopped fruit to the batter. Wild blueberries, apples, or strawberries all work. Or go chocolate: use cocoa protein powder or replace some flour with baking cocoa. Taste may get more bitter – add extra syrup if needed.
Savory: Use neutral protein powder with no vanilla or sweetness in the batter!
- sautéed mushrooms and onions
- guacamole and fresh tomatoes

Can I replace or omit the protein powder?
Yes, check the substitution table. Replace with flour for regular waffles (no extra protein).
Why use protein powder?
It makes waffles more filling and supports muscle metabolism – healthy and tasty!
How do I store them?
Best fresh, but will keep for 2–3 days in the fridge (airtight). You can also freeze them.
Does heat destroy the protein?
No – heat won’t harm the protein. In fact, baking is a great way to boost your daily intake.
Why add lemon juice?
It makes waffles fluffier and adds a fresh note.
*We prefer cream of tartar baking powder – no added phosphates.
