Electrolytes are minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium that are electrically charged in your body. They play an important role in key processes: for your fluid balance, normal muscle function, and the transmission of nerve signals. Since your body does not produce electrolytes itself and mainly loses them through sweat, they must be supplied through diet or drinks – especially during physical exertion or on hot days.
