When to take iron? The time of day doesn't matter, the only important thing is that you take our iron capsules with a meal. Whether you take the iron in the morning or evening, or even at lunchtime, is of secondary importance. Some people like taking it in the morning as part of a conscious morning routine, others feel better if they take their iron in the evening - in peace and quiet. Try both out and find out which suits you and your lifestyle better.

How much iron per day? According to the DGE, adult men need 11 mg of iron per day. Women's iron needs are a little more complex: adult women who menstruate need 16 mg of iron per day. In postmenopausal women the requirement drops to 14 mg per day. Vetains iron capsules provide 20 mg of highly available iron per daily dose.

There are a few things you can do to increase iron absorption from iron capsules or another iron supplement.

1. Take with vitamin C: Vitamin C, as already mentioned, increases iron absorption. So you can either use an iron preparation that already combines iron with vitamin C, such as Vetains iron capsules, or you can make sure to take a food rich in vitamin C with your supplement. Red peppers, sea buckthorn and rose hips have a particularly high amount of vitamin C, but the well-known lemons and oranges also contain relevant amounts of vitamin C.
